Works To Trees

I have lodged an application for works to trees and the system now follows the application for planning permission and therefore everything is lodged on the council's web site. I wonder if anyone will scrutinise? maybe Councillor Craig Statham who thinks that some trees are growing at right angles to the bank! better come and take a good look Craig; maybe tilt your head at an angle to match the slope of the bank.

Not much else happening in the woodland just now, I have been pre occupied with my path stories. The weather has been warm and dry and at every opportunity I have been watering any new planting. Not just trees and shrubs in my own area but a strip along the tennis club wall which was planted out a couple of months ago. Its early days but what a difference to this area already.

Some before and after shots for the record.

From last autumn and from today- with the barbed wire removed and the area tidied up.

One for Steve and Lynn, that famous day in 2007 when we walked the Penicuik-Dalkeith walk and found the nettles! I think we were signing the national Anthem whilst waiting for our medals.

These photos are from what was called area 10 in the woodland management plan originally written and photographed in year 2000. Have attempted to re photograph it today but it is clearly a different season. Still it shows the pole stage trees near the river bank and the overall impression of the large trees that exists in the woodland in 2000 and today. Having looked around the park today, I reckon some tree thinning on the park side of the river would be a great bonus to this area.
